Local Climate Activist leads interrogation of Leeds Bradford Airport CEO on overnight flight plan.

Updated: Oct 11, 2023

Vincent Hodder, CEO of Leeds Bradford Airport, has received a formal letter demanding answers and querying the legality of the airport's controversial nighttime flight plan.

The letter by Katie White, who received an OBE for her services in tackling climate change, is supported by Horsforth residents alongside all of the Horsforth town and city councillors.

Commenting, Katie White OBE said:

“Leeds Bradford Airport are already not acting lawfully in respect of their nighttime flight conditions. They breached these conditions in excess of over 750 flights by the end of Summer last year and continue to run roughshod over local residents who are furious about the damage that the plans to run an unlimited number of supposedly quieter planes to take off and land between 11 pm and 7 am, would cause to their health and environment.

“I, along with my fellow signatories, refuse to sit back and do nothing while Mr Hodder attempts to slip these plans in without making a proper application to vary planning conditions. He is attempting to circumnavigate proper process and scrutiny along with disregarding the fact that these flights will significantly increase greenhouse gas emissions.

“We demand clarification from Mr Hodder about this application immediately. We will continue to pursue this matter rigorously and use all legal means available if necessary to continue to stand up for people living in Horsforth, Otley and surrounding areas most affected by this reckless plan.”
